Horowhenua Land Search and Rescue is an organisation made up primarily of civilian volunteers, around 60 in number. The group started in the mid-1950s and since then has been providing search and rescue assistance to the lost, missing and injured.

WE NEED A HOME TO CALL OUR OWN

The Project

All of the work we do has been achieved without the group having an actual “home”. For at least the past 40 years, the group has met, had their gear stored at, and conducted search operations from the Levin police station. In recent years access has become problematic as security to police stations has tightened considerably. The lack of suitable and safe parking for the volunteer’s vehicles has also become an issue. The group typically has to hire different venues for indoor training and larger meetings and functions.

Because of the issues we face not having a 'home' of our own, the group has decided to establish our own purpose-built building for meetings, training, gear storage and conducting search operations.
