The Project

BACKGROUND

All of the work we do has been achieved without the group having an actual “home”. For at least the past 40 years, the group has met, had their gear stored at, and conducted search operations from the Levin police station. In recent years access has become problematic as security to police stations has tightened considerably. The lack of suitable and safe parking for the volunteer’s vehicles has also become an issue. The group typically has to hire different venues for indoor training and larger meetings and functions.

Because of the issues we face not having a 'home' of our own, the group has decided to establish our own purpose-built building for meetings, training, gear storage and conducting search operations.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Horowhenua AP and I association has generously allowed our group to lease, long term, an area within the Levin showgrounds on which to locate a building. The showgrounds are often used for landing helicopters during search operations and training exercises, and have very good access and ample parking.

A design has been drawn up, a detailed budget has been compiled, and quotes have been obtained for the building and ancillary equipment.

The diagrams below show the proposed Building for Horowhenua Land Search and Rescue.

Our Goal

We have ascertained that an amount of $800,000 will be required to undertake the project and we would sincerely appreciate your help in raising this amount.

This is an opportunity for community-minded individuals, businesses or groups to get behind a very important local organization, that provides a vital service, not only to our keen outdoor enthusiasts but some of our more vulnerable elderly folk.

Make a donation

Your support will make a significant impact and help us continue our mission of better serving our community.

Sponsors names will be featured prominently on our website and their names will be permanently featured on an “honours board” inside the new building.
